Botswana lifts ban on elephant hunting

“Co-existence between wild animals and communities is the only way that wildlife populations will survive,” said Kitty Block, president and CEO of the Humane Society of the United States and Humane Society International. “What a shame that Botswana, previously hailed as a shining example of wildlife conservation and a safe haven for elephants, has opted to become a promoter of trophy hunting.”

Time Magazine:
Dear Friends –
Georgia. Alabama. Missouri. I feel the need to act to defend our reproductive rights. I want to start by sharing some information about the recent legislature passed down south and what we can do here, anywhere, for the health and advocacy for our sisterhood across the country.
Alabama’s Abortion Ban Is Designed to Challenge Roe v. Wade at the Supreme Court
Here’s What Happens Next
The Alabama Senate passed a bill late Tuesday that would effectively ban abortion in the state, with no exceptions for rape or incest, prompting an outcry from abortion rights activists across the country and setting up a challenge to Roe v. Wade that could result in a Supreme Court battle. The bill, which already passed the Alabama House last month, would ban abortion at every stage of pregnancy, including exceptions only if the mother’s life is threatened. It also would make abortion a felony.
WHAT WE CAN DO:
1. STAY INFORMED: Great sources:
Robin Marty’s “Post
Roe Handbook“: A list of organizations and legislature by state. The
ACLU, Planned
Parenthood and
NARAL.
2. PRACTICE DEMOCRACY: Petition, Write, Call, Inform Legislative Members.
a.
State Innovation Exchange “SiX”:
supports state legislators who seek to strengthen our democracy, fight for working families, defend civil rights and liberties, and protect the environment. We do this through training, emphasizing leadership development, amplifying legislators’ voices, and
forging strategic alliances between our legislative network and grassroots movements.
Action
kit for legislative members.
b. Sign a petition to The Supreme Court of the United States, which says: “Tell Chief Justice John G. Roberts and the Supreme Court justices to end extreme policies which deny families the right to determine whether, when, and how to create a family.”
3. VOTE:
Ensure the next president you vote for will only nominate judges that uphold Roe V Wade and our reproductive rights. Here’s an
example.
4. TAKE ACTION:
Open
Your Doors to Women in Need of Assistance: grassroots
idea took off with the hashtag #UndergroundRailroad2019.
Planned Parenthood Defender: As a Defender, you’ll get access to resources, trainings, and webinars to learn how to fight back during critical political moments. Some weeks, you’ll help flood a key member of Congress with calls. Sometimes it might be writing a letter, showing up for a rally, or inviting friends and neighbors over for a meetup to plan how to organize in your community. Whatever it is, it will be what’s truly needed, right when it’s needed most — and we’ll give you the support and instructions you need to take action.
5. GIVE MONEY: donate in recognition of friend(s), your mother, or for RGB.
Planned Parenthood
NARAL
Yellow
Hammer Fund
to help Alabamians afford the transportation, housing, and medical costs of their abortion.
6. DISPLAY:
Post on social media, purchase and wear apparel, put magnets on your cars, signs on your lawn…
7. FORWARD this email, especially to your daughters.
Do something…in honor of Ruth Bader Ginsburg whose lifelong work MATTERS.
